Effective June 1, 2005, imported packaging timber must be treated and marked in accordance with ISPM 15.
Effective November 21, 2013, treatment of packaging timber using dielectric heating in accordance with ISPM 15 was incorporated into Chilean law.
For timber (dried or not) that is not actually used as packaging or dunnage, a phytosanitary certificate is required with a description of the drying process and a statement of the ISPM 15 heat treatment, even if the timber is intended for use as packaging material, such as semi-finished products or assembly kits. For packaging timber used as such for the shipment of other goods, a phytosanitary certificate is not required; ISPM 15 treatment and marking are sufficient.
