Mark
Wood that has been treated in accordance with ISPM 15 requirements bears the official IPPC mark.
The ISPM 15 mark may only be applied to treated products by the treatment provider and/or the manufacturer of wooden products that comply with ISPM 15 requirements. Please refer to this register of approved companies.
Examples of the mark look as follows:
NL ISO country code (NL)
000 3-digit registration number of the operator
HT / DH Treatment method: Heat Treatment (HT), Dielectric Heating (DH) or Methyl Bromide (MB).
N.B. Fumigation with methyl bromide (MB) has been banned as an alternative treatment method within the EU since 18 March 2010, due to a ban on the use of methyl bromide. This treatment method is still used in countries outside the EU. This wood also complies with ISPM 15 requirements.
The mark has a border. Within this border, the IPPC ear of corn and the code components are separated by a vertical line. The mark must be affixed in a visible place.
A hyphen separates the ISO country code from the unique 3-digit registration number of the registered company.
The logo must be legible, durable and affixed on two sides (preferably opposite each other). The format is not prescribed.
Doubts about a mark?
The Explanatory document for ISPM 15 (Guide to the regulation of wooden packaging material) provides examples of correct and incorrect ISPM 15 markings from Appendix 7 (page 74) onwards.
Creating a template
If the mark is applied using a template, it must comply with the example shown below. If the template differs, it must be submitted to the Certification Body for approval in advance.
Fender
The letter D is added outside the mark to indicate fender and is the same size as the letters placed within the mark. The distance between the letter D placed outside the frame and the frame may not exceed the width of the letter D. If added, the letter D forms an integral part of the Dutch mark.
For more information and other examples of the mark, see Appendix 2 of the SMHV Manual.
