About SMHV

Stichting Markering Houten Verpakkingen (SMHV, Foundation implementing the Dutch Wood Marking Program) has been founded in 2003 by the Dutch government. SMHV implements the wood marking program in the Netherlands in compliance with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures for regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade (ISPM 15). ISPM 15 has been developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), being part of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Program

2010 - In this article you can read about new requirements for the import and export of wooden packaging.
2009 - IPPC Guidelines for regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade Revision of ISPM no 15.
2007 - From 1 January 2007 the IPPC mark needs to exist of 3 numbers. Until then there are companies with a logo which have 2 or 3 unique numbers.

The following 27 countries are member of the European Union (EU):

  • Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg;
  • Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom (from 1973);
  • Greece (from 1981);
  • Spain and Portugal (from 1986);
  • Austria, Finland en Sweden (from 1995);
  • Cyprus, Estonia, Hungry, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic (from May 2004);
  • Bulgaria, Rumania (from January 2007).

Remark: Switzerland is officially no member of the EU, but the import requirements for the EU are also applied to Switzerland.
